After my blog post of a few days ago, I was pleased to meet Lord Baker today, discuss Technical Schools and Apprentices and highlight the Essex Apprenticeship Scheme. I was at the annual Vocational Qualifications Day (VQD), in Westminster. VQD recognising the four million vocational qualifications awarded last year (according to figures released by Edge, the independent education foundation).
I have tabled an Early Day Motion to mark VQD and to support Vocational Education, Training and Apprentices in general. My own view is that Parliament needs to demonstrate its commitment to vocational training by having an annual Skills debate every year to time in with VQD. This would give a major political impetus to vocational qualifications and show just how seriously they are regarded.
