No Plane no train, no gain. It is bad enough news that the Unite Union British Airways Strike is taking place after days of negotiations. Now we hear that the Rail Union has organised a strike which could disrupt the railways. It seems quite astonishing that, with the economic difficulties we are in, these Unions seem to be making things worse. All they will achieve is ruining a once great British Airline, and disruption of the lives of commuters as they make their way to work. These are strikes that hit innocent members of the public as they go about their day to day activities. Unfortunately, because the Labour Party is mostly funded by the Unions (three of the biggest give £25 million), the Government is not in the position to be an honest broker.
The question is whether these strikes are just an aperitif of what is coming. Do we face a return to the 1970s, with people once again asking: Who Governs Britain?
