Harlow Jobs Fair

After many months of organising, Harlow Jobs Fair took place on Friday at the Leisure-Zone.

It was a very special day. Not only did eighty-five businesses and local organisations attend, but over fifteen hundred job-seekers came through the doors. The Jobs Fair would not have been. Made possible without the support of Harlow College, Harlow Jobs Centre Plus, SEETEC, Rainbow Services and sponsorship by Tesco's, Smiths and other volunteers like Ian Hudson from the Chamber of Commerce, Mike Jackson and the Deputy Mayor of Bishops Stortford, Cllr Janice Elliot.

We were lucky to have Monster, and other recruitment specialists offering training on CVs and interviews. Companies from Asda to Barclays and our public services in the NHS and armed forces were offering vacancies. Harlow Trade Unions (the local TUC) were also there to offer advice on employment rights.

Around six-hundred jobs have been created this year in Harlow, with the number of apprenticeships up in the past year by seventy-eight percent. But unemployment remains a serious problem, with many finding it very tough to find work. That is why I decided to set up the Jobs Fair - an event I would like to do again in 2013, providing we can raise sponsorship and support.

Hopefully, with the many companies at the Jobs Fair offering employment, Friday's event will have made a real difference.

Eighty companies and over 1,500 job seekers expected at Harlow Jobs Fair 2012 on Friday

Eighty local employers will be exhibiting at the Harlow Jobs Fair at the Harlow Leisurezone from 10.30am until 3.30pm on Friday (October 26).

The event will feature local, national and international businesses and organisations.

Helping with the organisation of the event, the biggest of its kind to be held in the town, have been Harlow Chamber of Commerce, Harlow College, Harlow Jobcentre Plus, Seetec and local Olympic torchbearer Mike Jackson MBE.

The aim is to help local people who are looking for work to meet companies with vacancies.

Entry is free and there will also be free job-training seminars, such as CV and Interview workshops.

Among the exhibitors will be Asda, Anglia Ruskin University, Barclays, McDonald's, Park Inn, Raytheon, Manor of Groves Hotel, The Rivers Hospital, the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines and Stansted Airport.

The event will feature various Skills Workshops designed to help build confidence and provide advice.

CV writing and Interview practice workshops are being run by Seetec and the National Careers Service.

Harlow College will be running an Apprenticeship Hub with live apprenticeship applications and advice on how to navigate the National Apprenticeship website.

Looking for work? Click here for a FREE TICKET to Harlow Job's Fair

Some good news for Harlow on jobs. Under the Conservative-led Government, we have seen falling unemployment in Harlow in every single month this year. Over 500 new jobs have come back to our town. This is fantastic news and we should be proud of it. The BBC have also said Harlow has the fastest business growth - not just in England, but across the whole country.

To build on this success, I am organising a Job's Fair at the Leisure Zone, this autumn -with the help of many volunteers including Cllr Janice Elliott, Harlow Chamber of Commerce, our local Harlow Jobcentre, Harlow College, and Olympic torch-bearer Mike Jackson.

The aim is to help local people who are looking for a job, to meet companies with vacancies. Entry is FREE, and there will also be FREE job-training seminars, such as CV workshops.

This week I have written to over 700 Harlow firms, inviting them to come to recruit new staff at the event. It will be FREE for them to hold a stall. Employment Minister Chris Grayling has also said he hopes to be able to attend.

Attendees and exhibitors alike can sign-up online at www.harlowjobsfair.eventbright.com.
