Harlow Business Exhibition is best yet

Today, the Harlow Star has said:

"THIS year’s Harlow Business Exhibition has been hailed "the best yet" after pulling in crowds of more than 700 people on Tuesday."

"Back for the third year running, the Star-sponsored event took place at The Manor Of Groves Hotel in High Wych and saw a total of 100 local firms set up stall to promote their business."

I had a fantastic day at the Exhibition, meeting with local entrepreneurs and business people. Special thanks should go to exhibition co-director Brenda Bailey, of Harlow-based Bailey Book-keeping Services, and also to all the sponsors exhibitors and visitors. Event organisers the Sowerby Group really put on a great show.

These kinds of events are hugely important, as they prove that Harlow is open for business. Regular readers will know that our town has also been celebrated for having the highest business growth in the UK - and praised by the Prime Minister in Parliament. We need to keep that momentum going.

Prime Minister says: "Happy Birthday Harlow!"

As regular readers will know, Harlow New Town celebrated its 65th birthday in the last few days.

That's why I was so delighted to get a letter in the post this morning from the Prime Minister, David Cameron MP.

As you can see from the photo above, he wrote to congratulate Harlow on its achievements, not least in becoming one of the first Enterprise Zones in the whole country.

This is the second time as many months that the Prime Minister has praised Harlow for being one of the most entrepreneurial towns in Britain.

As you can see from this video, in response to my question, he has also said:

"I congratulate Harlow on the fantastic achievement that they have. The Government wants to play it's part, not least by the Enterprise Zone in West Essex, thats covering Harlow, and we hope it will create 5,000 new jobs."

He joins Amy Childs from The Only Way is Essex, and the Sun newspaper, to praise Harlow for its booming small businesses. You can read all about it HERE.

"Axe Petrol Tax" says The Sun

As I wrote in The Sun today, petrol prices are crucifying families, businesses and pensioners, who depend on buses to travel.

This is the biggest brake on economic growth and is creating a poverty trap, as people can't afford to drive to work.

Our taxi firms and lorry drivers are also being taxed out of existence, adding to Britain's dole queue and causing misery for millions.

We need a CUT in fuel duty for millions of hard-working motorists and families.

Most people have no choice but to fill up their car or van with fuel. That is why I am fighting for cheaper petrol.

Over 100 MPs have now signed my motion for cheaper petrol, which will be debated in Parliament next week (Tuesday 15 November).

Government after Government on this issue has had the "engine of a lawnmower, but the brakes of a Rolls Royce". I am glad that the Chancellor cut fuel duty by 1p a litre this April, but we need to go further to get cheaper petrol, as soon as possible.
