A total of £1,879,712 will be awarded to First Essex Buses Ltd, which runs the 347 Hatfield Broad Oak to Harlow service (via Hatfield Heath, Lower Sheering and Sawbridgeworth), to cover the cost of 23 buses.
Many people rely on public transport to get around. With the high cost of fuel – something I have been long campaigning against – and the need to protect our environment, eco-friendly buses are certainly the future and it is great news that funding is being made available to provide them in our county.
Through my Fed Up With Harlow Traffic campaign I am well aware of the issues we have with the amount of traffic using our roads, and so it is great that people have the option of using public transport, and using vehicles that do not pollute our environment.
The investment has been announced by Norman Baker MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State with the Department for Transport.
Some £100m is being allocated through the Better Bus Fund and Green Bus Fund. He said:
“At the heart of our plans is the need to get more people on buses. Buses are already very popular but we believe they could play an even more significant role in creating growth and cutting carbon.”
