Reflections on the Hillsborough Statement

On Wednesday, after the Prime Minister's dignified statement on Hillsborough, I tweeted that this was perhaps the saddest statement I had ever heard as MP.
After many years, after report after report - through the persistence of a few -the truth as to what happened finally came to light.

What David Cameron set out was horrifying. Cover up over cover up.  Police manipulation, lies and deception at the highest level, media mis-reporting and much more besides.

Britain's strength as a democracy, meant that - after relentless campaigning - the evidence ultimately came out into the open - because of our open society.

The difference between democracy and dictatorship.
