My six-month campaign to reduce petrol prices reached a critical goal today.
The OFT has agreed to “call for evidence” to see whether they should investigate oil companies which are suspected of price-fixing and market manipulation.
Along with the website PetrolPromise.com, I have has compiled a dossier of evidence to show how oil barons are ripping off motorists. This can be viewed here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/104971672/PetrolPromise-comHowtheOilMarketisFailingandWhyTheGovernmentMustAct#fullscreen
This will be presented to Parliament on 13 September when MPs are expected to have a half-day debate in the main chamber, calling for a formal investigation.
The Government has frozen fuel duty for two years - and I want them to cut tax even further. But we have to look at the oil market as well. Pump-prices keep going up and up, even though there is no oil-shortage. Why? There have been serious accusations of fraud and market-manipulation. We need a proper investigation, just as Germany and America are doing. Britain is being taken for a very expensive ride.
Rip-off petrol prices are now so high they are a poverty trap, keeping people on benefits because they can’t afford to travel. Fuel prices are literally driving people out of work. In my hometown of Harlow, the question is not can you afford to have a car - but can you afford not to. That’s why we need a tough investigation into the oil market and allegations of price-fixing.
My website, PetrolPromise.com, has also TODAY released a campaign video, explaining how the oil companies are price-fixing and keep petrol prices high at the pumps. You can view the video at PetrolPromise.com

Why do you continue to bleet on about petrol prices, instead of the things that really matter to the real people of this town such as the high rent prices for private rented properties - how can you justify people being charged nearly £600per cal month just for a one bedroomed flat or bedsit, how can you justify a political party that gives just half the rent in benefits to those who need it and want to be able to get their own place and yet expect people to pay nearly half the rent also when on benefits you do not even get half of the extra £270 a month - well you do but that then takes every penny you have leaving nothing for food, bills etc - you claim you fight for the people of harlow yet so far all i see you going on about is either the college, petrol prices or business....what about those of us struggling to get back into work for whatever reason or those of us struggling to make ends meet, how can you justify this tory party who claim they want to get people off benefits and yet at the same time with their guidlines now make it impossible to actually get a job if you're over 30 as everything is set up for 16-25 year oldsor at the same cutting thousands up on thousands of jobs putting more and more onto benefits to which they then struggle just to live due to the high prices of rent, why is there no form of social housing or hostels for homelessness in this town when people are struggling just to meet their day to day needs - it's about time you got off the tory bandwagen and actually looked around you for the realness of living today in this town and the complete lack of amenities in this town for those of us looking for work or to get a place we can call our own, i'm 33 and having to live back at home with my mother and stepfather in their house not mine in their room not mine all because your party saw fit to cut the housing benefit in half making it impossible for a single male like myself to actually afford somewhere to live - even the cheapest single room cost over £250pm in this town and a double room £380 + please explain these things and why is it i got accepted on a city and guilds course in romaford for customer service yet due to your party guidleines i was forced to cancel it due to it being govt funded and yet because it was not marketed through the job center or on their system thay couldn't sign me for it to get the required funding for a course that was due to lead to a job at the end of it - just some points for you to mull over you can email me to meet face to face if you wish to discuss this - i have emailed you already so you can email with a time and place to meet and discuss these issues
