Harlow Homework Club is saved: In June, I learned that the study co-ordinator of the Harlow Homework Club, Julie Allen, was at risk of redundancy despite having done a fantastic job for 13 years. This was because of cutbacks at Essex County Council. The Harlow Homework Club, which is used by more than 180 school pupils of all ages, was threatened with closure. But now, this week, following a campaign led by myself, I learned that the funding has been found to secure the club for at least one more year. I intervened and started a campaign to save the club. My Private Members Bill - Transparent petrol prices: On Tuesday I argued in Parliament that we must come clean about why petrol and diesel prices are so expensive. As the PetrolPromise.com campaign has pointed out, partly it is the oil companies, not passing on cheaper petrol. But also it is rip-off levels of fuel duty - which are still far too high.
