Showing Fuel Duty on our receipts

I was delighted yesterday to get backing from Sun fuel duty 'Keep it Down' Campaign yesterday. The Sun reported ( http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/politics/4441939/Show-fuel-tax.html) on my Private Members Bill - proposing that all our petrol and diesel receipts at petrol stations should be compelled to show how much the Government is taking in pounds, rather than percentages.  I am also arguing that receipts should show how much of fuel duty is being spent on our road networks.

Transparency in our petrol/diesel receipts will put pressure on any Government to keep fuel duty down and ensure that the oil companies bear responsibility too. If the Government cut fuel duty for example, it will be harder for the oil companies to keep the petrol pumps expensive -even when the international oil price falls.

This campaign is an important component of the highly successful pressure group Fair Fuel UK's, to keep fuel duty low. It is being backed by www.PetrolPromise.com and the Independent Petrol Retailers Association.

You can read my speech about this in the House of Commons last week on my Blog:
