Robert Halfon's weekly newsletter – Victory in fight for cheaper
fuel
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
Fight for cheaper fuel: Regular
readers will know that I have campaigned for cheaper petrol and diesel for many
years now - and that the Government only this week listened, and stopped the 3p
tax-rise in August. I spoke to BBC Look East about this and you can watch the
video here
Following a question from me in Parliament,
the Transport Secretary set out what she is doing to help Harlow motorists. She
also agreed with me that much more must be done to pressure oil companies to cut
petrol and diesel prices at the pumps.
PM opens the door for a referendum on
renegotiation of our relationship with the EU: In a hugely important
development, the Prime Minister has opened the door to a referendum to
renegotiate Britain's relationship with he EU. I welcome this.
I also agree with the PM on timing. My own
view is that there should be a referendum after the next election (once the
economic crises have passed) - based on substantial renegotiation. We should go
to the EU with a strong mandate from the British people, to repatriate our
powers lost to Brussels. With such a mandate, it would put the UK into a strong
position into stopping the EU federalist ratchet once and for all... Read

Stop giving benefits to rich pensioners
abroad: Today in Parliament, I backed an important campaign by The Sun
newspaper click
here which is urging the Government to
ignore EU regulations that ask British taxpayers to sent up to £90 million in
benefits to wealthy pensioners living abroad in warm countries and European
tax-havens.
Five principles for the welfare
society: The Prime Minister this week made an important speech about the
Welfare State. The essence of the speech was that any welfare society should
focus providing a ladder of aspiration, rather than entrenching a dependency
culture. You can read more about this here
