NEWSFLASH: VICTORY on the 3p fuel rise in August

Some EXCELLENT news today. Following a huge amount of pressure from Harlow residents, readers of this blog, myself, and of course everyone at the petrolpromise.com campaign, the Government have now announced that the August 3p rise in fuel duty will NOT go ahead.

This is a great victory! I am delighted, especially given that I initiated a Parliamentary debate on this and have been working on this issue for many years, with victories cutting fuel duty by 1p in 2011, and securing a freeze in 2012. (Read more here.) I am grateful also for the huge work of many others, including the FairFuelUK campaign and many other MPs.

Of course, there is still the problem of rip-off oil companies, who have been accused of price-fixing in Europe. But it is still a huge step forward.

However: We can't rest on our laurels. We need EVERYONE to do their bit, to sign the petition for cheaper petrol, and to help fuel Britain's economic recovery.

Once again, thanks for your help and support! This just goes to show that public pressure can work.
