It was a fascinating occasion - and a useful illustration as to why Brazil, as a country, has become an economic powerhouse even overtaking the UK in the economic league tables.
The Governor has turned his state around economically through lower by creating a welcoming climate for business. Tax rates have been reduced, bureaucracy cut and there has been a huge emphasis on skills training. This has occurred with the collaboration of all the State's universities and schools. Interestingly, the Governor said that the minimum wage had made a difference by giving spending power to those on the lowest income. It had helped boost the economy through the increase in purchasing power.
P.S. Rio Grande do Sul, despite occupying just 3% of Brazil's land mass, generates a GDP of $90 billion.
