Oh happy days. After many years of legal wrangling, extremist Abu Hamza and his 'friends' are finally to be given the order of the boot, extradited to the United States for trial for conspiracy to violence and much more besides.
Finally the European Court of Human Rights saw sense and threw out Mr Hamza's spurious claim that to be extradited to America, was an infringement of his human rights.
The question is whether or not this is a turning point for the European Court: Will Mr Abu Qatada similarly be sent packing back to Jordan or will the Judges subvert the founding principle of the Convention: - protecting the innocent from terror?
It is not the the values of the European Convention of Human Rights that is at fault - but how the European Judges interpret the Convention. It is harder for Britain to make its own decisions on these matters, because the last Government incorporated the Convention into British law. This means that if the Government defies the European Court Judges, it is breaking UK laws. Only by disentangling the ECHR from British law and having our own Bill of Rights, will we be able to make our own decisions on these kind of matters in the future.
