A very special Easter break, with a few days spent with Vanda, in the Mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales.

It is a most wonderful place.  Even though it rained every day we were there, it didn't matter. Castles, valleys, lakes and mountains abounded.  We stayed in a wonderful B&B, Aberconwy House, just outside the village of Betws-y-Coed, with views across the valleys.  The owners could not have done more to make us feel welcome. Amazing breakfasts too.

The very best part for me was standing at the very top of Mount Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales.  Although Vanda and I, reached the top by train, there were a fair few final steps to the summit.  It was a wonderful feeling standing - literally in the clouds - about 1,100 metres about sea level.

The journey itself was incredible. It took an hour for the train to climb the mountain.  The views around were quite magical: a few remote farm houses, hill walkers, long valleys, lakes and even old railway signs. We even stopped at a point - religiously named as Hebron.

It was good to be in mountains, to stop, stand and stare a little - even if it was just for a short time.  A reminder of beauty and nature - and that there is more to life than politics.
