Government puts extra money into Harlow

Through the New Homes Bonus, Harlow Council has been granted an extra £442,473 this year (£231,938 was awarded in 2011) to support vital services in the local area.

These funds will help the Conservative Councillors on the town Council - who are led by Cllr Andrew Johnson - to freeze the Council Tax for the third year running.

The New Homes Bonus is a multi-billion pound programme that rewards communities when they accept more housebuilding in their area.

The Bonus includes an extra reward for building new affordable homes - which we desperately need in Harlow - and for getting long-term empty homes back into use.

Sadly, the truth is that Labour led Britain into a housing crisis - the number of affordable homes fell, waiting lists almost doubled (hitting more than 7,000 in Harlow) and first-time buyer numbers collapsed to their lowest level for a generation.

Housebuilding is already up a quarter under the Conservative-led Government. But there is more to do.

I am delighted to welcome this funding for Harlow - a freeze in the Council Tax is exactly what we need.

  1. That is chilling news for those that will have to live with new developments on their door steps and the loss of green belt and woodland. This town needs more jobs not more people! Come on Robert stand up for your electorate and help us fight this wave of developments.

  2. "Housebuilding is already up a quarter under the Conservative-led Government."

    Straight pack of lies.

The number of new homes built has fallen dramatically since you came to power. In 2010, the latest full year for which figures are available, just 102,730 homes built – down more than 15,000 from the previous year.
