Operation Headless Chicken

Operation Headless Chicken is far from a joke. It is a term that the Zimbabwe Government are using in advance of the elections, possibly to be held next year. What it means is that opposition members of the Mugabe Regime, will be decapitated - literally. Operation Headless Chicken has replaced that of Operation Long Arm or Short Arm. The former gave the victim the choice of having their hand or arm chopped off.

I learnt about this - attending a meeting of Harlow Zimbabwe Restoration Of Human Rights (ROHR) - held at Sherards Hatch last Saturday. Listening to the ROHR national President, I heard about these brutalities of Mugabe, the desparate situation in Zimbabwe and the role of the Opposition. Interestingly, ROHR suggested that Mr Morgan Transvirai's Party (The Movement for Democratic Change), had compromised itself by joining the Mugabe Government and corruption from power was slowly seeping through.

Despite this gloomy outlook, Harlow Zimbabweans were in good cheer and heartily sang the African song of freedom (followed by prayers for their homeland). We then enjoyed a great meal of traditional food. I felt uplifted and inspired - and very glad that I had been invited to attend this special ROHR event.

  1. Is there anything we can do? The U.N., perhaps? I mean, obviously we can't police every country in the world, but are we completely helpless in this case?
