It is hard to believe what is going on in the Middle East. Libya is one of the most totalitarian of Arab regimes - yet it looks like Gadaffi's power is crumbling. Some reports state that Gadaffi has even fled the country. As I write, the Colonel's son is on Sky News warning that he will deal with 'sedition' and 'outside influences'. Hopefully he too, will soon be in exile. The battle for Libya has yet to finish.
One thing is for sure, events in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain and Libya show just how much democracy and freedom, is as important and valuable to their citizens as it is in Western nations. So often we have been told that democracy is a Western concept and 'not part of the culture' of the Middle East. That it can't be 'exported' to this part of the world. Nothing could be further from the truth. Freedom is something every human being cherishes, wherever they come from.
