
Last night, I took part in the BBC 1 Debate on the Comprehensive Spending Review.
I made the point that the new Government must be tough but fair. Reform and change today is necessary if we want social justice tomorrow.
Sadly, the cuts we now face are Labour’s legacy. Labour doubled the national debt and left us with the biggest deficit in the G20. We have to clean up Labour’s mess to get the economy moving, and to keep mortgage rates low.
At the same time, we must invest in skills and apprenticeships for young people, improve Harlow housing and roads, and protect the NHS.
This is the balance we have to strike.
