That this House welcomes the Government's efforts to prevent discrimination against older people; further welcomes its proposal to change the law, so that over-65s will no longer be automatically sacked; notes the case of Mr Kevin Forbes, a Harlow man who was made redundant, but cannot access retraining or support because he is not on benefits; further notes that he has applied for more than 4,700 jobs without any success, despite being highly qualified in information technology; calls on the public and private sectors to value the contribution that older people can make; and further calls on them to support the Government's commitment radically to improve back-to-work schemes for older people.

Employment for the Over-fifties
Following my blog on Wednesday, about the difficulties that the over 50s face in employment, I have tabled a Commons Motion, which has been signed by MPs from all parties:
EMPLOYMENT OF PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 50 YEARS
20.07.2010
Halfon, Robert
I want to raise this issue in Parliament and outside, to try and help ensure that individuals, who are fifty-plus and made redundant, are given proper support to get back into employment - whether or not they are on benefits.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteYou have a very good blog. At this point the marketplace has started to look up and folks are starting up to get jobs. However, most are confused whether or not they're acquiring the suitable salary. They might validate this by examining their salaries through on the web tools. One such site to assess salary mechanical engineers and other specialists is whatsalary.com.
hi,
ReplyDeletewhen the local bus advetises "help the aged over fifties, it dosnt change peoples opinions that you are waiting for the knackers yard, no matter how many qualifications or work experince you have or age discrimination laws that are put in place, it will never change the general publics perception of the older person. the media needs to show that we are fit and active and more than capable of maintaining an efficent workplace assignment in any field rather than their token B&Q image of the over fifties.
