Most people have heard of Kitemark as it is on our plugs and other household items. Well, today I was really pleased to support a campaign by the British Standards Institution (which has a Royal Charter), to extend Kitemark to car mechanic garages around the country. A garage with Kitemark means that they guarantee the best service that can possibly be offered. Garages have to go through rigorous assessments to get the Kitemark Standard which is monitored on a regular basis.
In a series of joint Radio interviews with distinguished motoring journalist Quentin Wilson, I set out why Kitemark should become the standard for most car garages.
First; 58% of customers feel that they have not got value for money when they have taken their car to be fixed.
Second; Kitemark offers garages, for just four pounds a day, a standard which ensures that the Garage is recognised for excellence, reliability, honesty and value for money.
Third; all the evidence shows that garages which have the Kitemark standard, not only get more customer satisfaction, but gets more customers through the doors.
I am tabling a Commons Motion supporting the Kitemark for car garages and will also be asking some Parliamentary Questions to try and persuade the Government to support Kitemark as the industry standard . It is good for the car mechanic industry, good for customers and good for society.
