Labour let down the poor. It's official.

It is official. Labour have let down the poor.  According to a Government Report initiated by Harriet Harman, which has just been published, poverty and inequality have dramatically increased since 1997.  The report suggests that Britain has the highest level of poverty in Western Europe, which is amongst the highest of the developing economies.  Children who are born in the poorest areas will live thirteen years less than children from richer areas.

This information follows another Report from Save the Children, which showed that the number of children living in poverty rose by 260,000 to 1.7 million between 2004 and 2008.

These are shocking statistics and an indictment on Labour and Gordon Brown.  Labour always claim to be the champion of the most vulnerable and for equality, yet what these two reports show is that their policies make the poor even poorer and inequality worse.
