Naw Ruz
It was Bahai New Year (Naw Ruz) celebrations on the weekend. Harlow has a big Bahai community and on Saturday evening had a special party at the Study Centre. Food, music and fun abounded.
I was really pleased to be there, especially as some members of the Harlow Bahai community recently came to Parliament to discuss persecution of their community in Iran. They also went on a tour around Westminster. After the meeting, I subsequently tabled a Commons Motion urging our Government to press the Iranian regime to stop ill-treatment of Bahai's. I will continue to do what I can to help the Bahai cause. They should be allowed to practice their religion in freedom, without fear.
Anyway, back to the evening in Harlow. It was a beautiful event. Singing and ancient musical instruments being played. Everyone seemed so happy. I was too.
P.S. The picture shows me cutting a Bahai New year cake!
